First off I should mention that we rent both laptop and notebook computers. Secondly I should mention that it dawned on me today that I wasn’t really sure what the difference was, and since I am in the business of renting computers and laptops I should probably know this. If any of you out there are reading this and know the difference between the two I encourage you to submit a comment telling me before continuing this article. In fact if ANYONE is out there reading this I encourage you to submit a comment just because it will make us smile here at the office and I will no longer believe I am just blogging to myself and the rest of our team.

Here is the general difference between laptops and notebooks:

A notebook is a slimmer, lighter and often physically smaller version of a laptop. Both of them are portable computers and I won’t bother to explain the ‘lap’ part of laptop because I think we all get that. The way things are going with technology, in the future there might not be such a thing as laptops anymore because everything seems to be getting smaller and lighter. To summarize, I think it’s fair to say that all notebooks are laptops, but not all laptops are notebooks. The good news is you can get whatever laptop rental or notebook rental you want from us and happily type away comments on the differences between them on this blog post.

I’d say 95% of people, myself included, think of Plasma Screen Monitors being only for television. Even as I was typing that sentence I naturally wanted to type the words ‘Plasma TV’ and had to pause. I’m sure the reason for this is the constant advertising of newer and bigger Plasma TV and home entertainment systems - especially with the big change to digital broadcasting coming on soon. One of the things about working with a computer rental company is the fact that my regular work computer is one of the models that we rent to our clients. It is because of this that I can say how awesome our standard computer rentals are; after all - I’m on one every day. I use my computer for everything from word processing to web design to data intensive excel applications all at the same time without any problems. I’m running windows XP bough if you are renting you will always have the choice of Vista as well. I’ll try not to bore you completely to death with all the laptop vs. desktop arguments I constantly go through when considering a computer, but it is always an issue. I love the processing power, upgradability, a large monitor that desktops offer but somewhere buried beneath all my good sense is the thought that I could be wandering around at a moments notice with my laptop as a mobile office hopping around various wireless networks. Of course in perfect world I would buy the nice desktop and huge monitor for home and then get the laptop also to take on the go.
